The Nature of the Neolithic

Have you wondered what the landscape might have looked like 5000 years ago? Or what brought our predecessors here, to settle and to build these incredible monuments? Volunteer EH Guides will take you back to the plants and animals that would have welcomed those settlers, and look at the living nature - particularly the lichens - at the site today. 

We will be at Castlerigg Stone Circle from 10am to 2pm with free activity and colouring sheets, and you will be able to handle items from the collection at Keswick Museum to really feel part of that Neolithic world. Free talks will be given by the EH guides at 11am and 12.30pm on the nature that would have surrounded the site at the time when the circle was built, and as we see it now, with an update on the latest archaeological findings at the site. 

This will be followed at 3pm by a talk at Keswick Museum, Station Road Keswick CA12 4NF by James Morris - Senior Lecturer at the University of Central Lancaster and Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeology.
