Come join HADAS excavating at the site of Vine Cottages!
The Hendon and District Archaeological Society will be returning to the site of the former Vine Cottages for the second time. Last year, we found foundations of associated buildings and garden features, as well as an Anglo-Saxon pinhead! This year, we plan to excavate to discover the extent of the more unusual features and see if there is any more Saxon evidence.
The research goals are:
1. Is there further evidence for Anglo-Saxon presence on the site?
2. Do the post-hole and stake-hole from last year align with any others?
3. What is the extent of the unusual cut and what might the feature be?
4. Why did the pebble surface not extend over the northern part of the trench?
The dig is open to all to come and view. Those over the age of 16 are welcome to participate in the excavation if they become full or temporary members (at a fee of £1 per day).
