Archaeology is full of people, but only a small minority of them are considered ‘notable’. This presentation will explore how the Beyond Notability project has been combing the archives of the Society of Antiquaries of London and the Royal Archaeological Institute to unearth stories of archaeology’s people – particularly women – who have explored, excavated, displayed, presented and owned the past, and supported others in doing so, between 1870 and 1950. It will discuss how we can link the stories of archaeology’s workers through a variety of institutions, each detail uncovered allowing us to weave a richer, more detailed, contextualised history of us and our enthusiasm for the past. And it will encourage us to work together to make this history visible.
You can find out more about Amara and her work in the biography below.
