The 2025 CBA Groups Weekend will take place in Suffolk on Saturday 20 - Sunday 21 September and has been coordinated by CBA East.
Over the course of the weekend you will have the opportunity to join us for visits to Sutton Hoo and West Stow as well as hear a fascinating talk from Dr Helen Gittos.
You will also have the chance to catch up with representatives from CBA Groups across England and Wales and CBA's Executive Director, Neil Redfern.

Itinerary for the weekend
Saturday 20 September
11.45am - The Sutton Hoo Ship's Company https://saxonship.org/
Meet outside The Longshed, Tide Mill Way, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 1FP for welcome, introductions and tours of the Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company in the Longshed.
The Sutton Hoo Ship's Company was formed in 2016 with the sole purpose of creating a permanent and authentic replica of the Sutton Hoo Anglo-Saxon ship. The team is made up of professionals, volunteers and enthusiasts who are working together to fully understand the dimensions and construction methods. The ship is being built in the Longshed, a purpose-built unit gifted to the town and dedicated to maritime history and education.
Tours will take place at 12.00pm and 1.00pm. £6 payable in advance.
Lunch - There will be time for lunch and to explore Woodbridge.
3.00pm - Sutton Hoo, National Trust https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/suffolk/sutton-hoo
Meet at the visitor entrance to Sutton Hoo, the postcode is IP12 3DJ.
The 270-acre estate has far-reaching views over the River Deben and is home to the Royal Anglo-Saxon burial ground. National Trust archaeologist Angus Wainwright will lead a guided tour of the site and talk about the recent Time-Team excavations.
Free to NT Members, Non-member adult £16.15. Pay at the entrance on arrival.
5.30pm - Talk by Dr Helen Gittos at the King's Head
Meet at King’s Head, 17 Market Hill, Woodbridge, IP12 4LP for light refreshments followed by a talk by Dr Helen Gittos. Dr Gittos is an Associate Professor of Early Medieval History at the University of Oxford and her talk is “The links between the Sutton Hoo burials, other richly furnished burials in the Eastern Region, and Syria in the late 6th century”

Sunday 21st September
11.00am – 1.00pm - Guided tour of West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village https://www.weststow.org/Anglo-Saxon-Village/
West Stow is the site of an early Anglo-Saxon village, occupied from AD 420-650. In 1976 the West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village Trust was formally established to manage the site, and registered as a charity in 1977. The site now has extensive indoor galleries and a stunning recreation of an Anglo-Saxon village comprising eight buildings surrounded by 125 acres of unspoilt countryside.
Due to the presence of livestock, assistance dogs only are permitted in the Anglo-Saxon Village.
