War Memorials Trust is a conservation charity which works to protect the UK’s estimated 100,000 war memorials. We offer free advice and run grant schemes for the repair of war memorials. We would encourage anyone with an interest or enquiry about war memorials to get in touch.
We are looking for volunteers to go and visit their local war memorials and take photos. We are particularly interested in the condition of war memorials so we can best direct our resources to those that need help. Photos and condition updates can be added to War Memorials Online.
Our website, War Memorials Online, is an online database of war memorials run by the charity which aims to collect information about the location and condition of all war memorials in the UK. Anybody can register on the website and begin adding their information and photos to the relevant records. So far, with the help of the public, we have over 80,000 war memorial records.
Any war memorials reported as being in Poor or Very bad condition are reviewed by one of our Conservation Officers who will make an assessment and take any follow up action. This may include offering our advice/ information about funding to the war memorial’s custodian.
We are equally keen to hear about war memorials in Good and Fair condition, to highlight the care being taken by communities and war memorial custodians and to give us a broader sense of the condition of war memorials across the UK.
We would welcome any enquiries about getting involved with the charity’s work, and our team can be contacted on [email protected], 020 7233 7356, or War Memorials Trust, 70 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EJ.
