A chance to visit Loughborough’s parish church, one of Leicestershire’s major churches. The existing fabric is mostly 14th century and later. The church will be open for visiting every Saturday throughout July. On Saturday 11th and 18th July Roger Willson, church archivist, will lead a guided tour of the church, including its history at 10.30am

Join Bob Gale of the Oadby & Wigston Fieldworkers for a walk around the old village of Mowsley in south-east Leicestershire. You will have the opportunity to explore the original layout of the village including its church, and visit the site of the medieval Brabazon Manor and its fishponds.

The event is a guided tour of the burial grounds of Wymeswold, to examine the relationship between the archaeology and ecology of cemeteries, over different time scales. We will explore the archaeology of St Mary's churchyard, then visit the burial grounds associated with the Baptist churches, Methodist church, and finally the parish cemetery which opened in 1882. We will examine the nature, morphology and monuments of each site, and the way in which the use of cemeteries affects their ecology, over time. We will consider the use of plant and animal iconography on memorials, and the use of living plants as memorials - along with their impact on the cemetery environment.
