Archaeology Online: Celebrating Local Archaeology Through Social Media

Multiple dates and times available

This year, the Egham Museum is celebrating the 2024 Festival of Archaeology online!

Stay tuned to our social media to learn why archaeology is essential in telling us more about our local story. At the Egham Museum, we have a range of artefacts that piece together the history of Egham and the surrounding area. This ranges from earrings to pottery, and tools to coins.

Follow us as we examine some of our most impressive finds, as well as what we do in the community to promote local history through the use of physical evidence. We will also be interviewing our team, hard-working members of the community, to find out what their favourite archaeological items are, and their part in preserving our rich history.

We have produced a series of three posts throughout the festival.

The first (13th) will be several slides explaining archaeology at Egham Museum as well as some of our most interesting archaeological finds.

The second post (20th) is a short video for our Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok explaining how we take archaeology out to the community (aligning with the Archaeology and Community theme this year). This will include a discussion about a recent visit to a local school in our district where we took ancient Roman pottery fragments and a Roman coin to show to their pupils.

The third (27th) post will be another video interviewing our volunteers asking them about their favourite piece of archaeology in the Egham Museum and the story behind it.

Then on the final day of the Festival (28th), we will share a thank you post with a final promotion of the Council and a reminder for people to stay tuned for collaborations at next year's Festival.
