'Cold-case' Archaeology: Gambier Parry Gardens alias 'Coppice Corner', 9/83

Tim Copeland

Many important excavations remain incompletely analysed in museum archives. In this talk, Tim Copeland describes the attempts to piece together the archive of a major watching brief and smaller excavation at a large housing development at Gambier Parry Gardens, also referred to as Coppice Corner, or 9/83 which took place in the Kingsholm district of Gloucester between 1983 and 1987. The site is important due its proximity to the site of the Kingsholm Roman fort. Examination of the extensive, but incomplete, archive has allowed some tentative interpretations to be made regarding the earliest stages of the Roman military presence in Kingsholm and of its use in the later Roman period.
