Brief for Development of Festival of Archaeology Evaluation Strategy 2025-2027

Are you ready for your next challenge?

The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) is seeking a contractor who will develop a strategy for evaluating the Festival of Archaeology which can be implemented over the next three years – 2025-2027.

Project Overview

The work will look at how we capture evaluation data and measure the impact of the Festival of Archaeology over the next three-year period from 2025-2027.

It will review and build on our previous evaluation strategy from 2020-2024 (available on request). The consultant will be required to develop an approach to evaluation that will ensure successful data capture of:

  • Events delivered by the CBA and by external event organisers
  • In-person and digital delivery
  • Access on-demand resources
  • Wellbeing benefits of attending Festival events

We would like to use the information to:

  • Understand the experiences of audiences
  • Deliver fun and engaging data capture using a variety of mechanisms, adaptable for each event
  • Improve data capture
  • Demonstrate the social and public value of the Festival

The following outputs should be delivered by the consultants:

  • Deliver a series of workshops (minimum of two sessions) with relevant CBA staff to review the previous evaluation strategy and look at opportunities to evolve this and develop a new strategy.
  • Develop a new theory of change for the Festival of Archaeology 2025-2027.
  • Upon completion: produce a strategy document with a clear methodology, theory of change and a suite of evaluation tools for implementation from 2025-2027 (format to be agreed in collaboration with CBA staff) & deliver a final workshop to staff presenting the methodology.

Skills and experience required:

The contractor should be able to demonstrate most, if not all, of the following experience:

  • Successful delivery of consultancy project work on time and to budget.
  • Relevant experience of evaluation and impact of a broad audience and a wide range of events
  • Experience developing creative approaches to evidence-gathering
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

About the contract:

A fee of £4,000 is available, inclusive of VAT.

Work should commence in late February/early March 2025. The project should be completed by end of April 2025.
