Archaeology Skills Training Day / Diwrnod Hyfforddi Sgiliau Archaeoleg

Join the Council for British Archaeology and National Trust for an exciting archaeology skills training day at Powis Castle and Garden.

In this special event, we are offering a limited number of places for members of the public to have a go at some traditional archaeological practices, some with a creative twist, with our experts. The day includes guided tours of the Powis Castle grounds including the current 17th century garden excavations, talks on the castle and its historic landscape setting, geophysics workshops and creative archaeological illustration activities.

PROGRAMME

9:45am - Arrival, tea/coffee and biscuits

10:00am - Welcome and explanation of the day

10:15am - Landscape context tour

11:30am - BREAK

11:45am - Archaeology excavation talk with Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust

12:45pm - LUNCH (Please bring packed lunch)

1:30pm - Geophysics workshop or Drawing/illustration workshop

2:45pm - BREAK

3pm - Drawing/illustration workshop or Geophysics workshops (rotated so participants will do both)

4:15pm - Round-up of the day and Thank You!

4:30pm - END

ADDITONAL INFORMATION

The day is free to attend and open to over 18s.

The event will be based in a marquee on the Great Lawn. Access to the Great Lawn is via sloped paths with some steep gradients. The activities will involve moving from the marquee to outdoor areas around the site. Please wear clothing appropriate to the weather conditions and suitable footwear for the terrain.

Although refreshments will be provided at points throughout the day, please bring a packed lunch.
