Community Archaeology at Oak House 2025

Multiple dates and times available

Once again we'll be digging at the marvelous 'Oak House' in West Bromwich, where children and adults will be able to try some hands-on archaeology. During last year's Festival we uncovered part of a building foundation and this year we're hoping to explore more of this feature which dates back to at least the 1840s.

Visitors will be able to take part in short sessions where they can sieve excavated soil and clean finds as well as examine material from our other recent excavations. We can't guarantee you'll find anything but every dig we've held at Oak House has produced interesting finds from the four centuries that the house has been standing. Please note that children must be under adult supervision at all times when taking part and if the event is as popular as in previous years we may not be able to guarantee participation (but we'll try really hard not to disappoint!).

Admission to Oak House is free of charge and the site includes a cafe and toilets, recreation and play areas and of course the wonderful timber-framed building and its many interesting rooms and artefacts. Other activities for children will be taking place across the site, please visit the Oak House website for details.
