Taking place as part of the Festival of Archaeology, this webinar is an Introduction to HS2 Archaeology in Staffordshire and Cheshire

About this Event:

High Speed Two (HS2) is the new high speed railway for Britain.

Before we build bridges, tunnels, tracks and stations, the largest archaeology programme ever undertaken in the UK is taking place along the line of route.

Our archaeology programme is continuing to unearth discoveries across our sites. To share information about these works and some of the exciting finds uncovered we ran a series of online archaeology events to support the Festival of Archaeology 2020.

An Introduction to HS2 Archaeology: Staffordshire and Cheshire

The Phase 2a spur of HS2 will extend north from Fradley to Crewe, crossing north Staffordshire and East Cheshire. Our archaeological works on Phase 2a will build on the experience and discoveries from Phase One of HS2, and reveal new insights and findings about the history of this landscape.

This talk introduces the heritage along the Phase 2a route, including the influence of the landscape, and discuss what HS2 is trying to discover, how they do it, and what exciting finds we might expect over the next few years.

Chris Jordan is the Historic Environment Manager for Phase 2a at HS2. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA).
