The amphora displayed at the Conwy Culture Centre is a relic from the Roman occupation of Conwy – soldiers were based at Canovium (Caerhun) from the 1st century AD. This specimen was made in Naples and could have stored wine or grain. It was discovered in a garden in Rhos-on-Sea in 1985. In our film we ask the archaeologist, Steve Grenter, who was instrumental about the recovery of the amphorae.
