From 18th July to 2nd August, the UK’s largest celebration of archaeology is back, and this year we’re exploring the connections between archaeology and nature.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a moment to pause and reflect on how we look after ourselves and each other. At the Council for British Archaeology, we’ve been thinking about how archaeology can play a part in supporting wellbeing, helping us slow down, connect with others, and see the world around us in new ways.

We’re delighted to announce the winners and shortlist for the 2025 Marsh Community Archaeology Awards, delivered in partnership between the Council for British Archaeology and the Marsh Charitable Trust. 

This summer, the Festival of Archaeology 2025 invites you to pause, breathe, and discover how archaeology connects us - not just to the past, but to ourselves, to nature, and to our communities. From mindful collecting and family fun days, to yoga in ancient caves, this year’s programme is packed with events that remind us that archaeology isn’t just about digging into the earth, it’s about uncovering hidden stories, sparking curiosity, and even finding a little peace of mind.
