Excavating and restoring: A day in life of an archaeologist and restorer

It was a sunny winter afternoon,I vivdly remember, when I first walked into an archaeological site as part of the team. The day starts with a brief of the task at hand after which we end up getting ready with out gloves and knives in hand to dig.We end up in our respective trenches to start the meticulous process of finding small fragments of teracottas.

I ended up finding small broken pieces of teracotta bangles dating back to the Harappan times. I brushed the extra dirt while the broken pieces were in ground and tried to pick them up and keep them just in the right order;how I found them.I numbered them and kept them in a air-tight bag and took them to the restoration desk.

The restoration Tent is well venilated and used for only emergency conservation. The broken teracotta pieces were recorded in the system and stored with other finds.

After a short break, we went with our restoration tools for a huge plaque that was unearthed. We lifted the plaque along with the earth around it in order to give it a stronger support. The plaque was lifted and stored in a box made according to the dimensions of the plaque. This was taken to the restoration tent and recorded as part of the process.
