Virtual Field School: Behind the scenes at the Silchester Roman Town excavations, University of Reading
Like many other university Field Schools, we are - sadly - not out in the field excavating this summer. Which means that you will not be able to join us on site for our usual Silchester Roman Town Open Day when we invite visitors to visit the excavation, hear about our discoveries and meet our students and participants. Instead, we will open our virtual excavation gate on the Silchester website, where we will host videos, presentations and links. We will not be 'live' but you will be able to explore the resources at your leisure! You will meet our team and our students and learn about the discoveries we have made at the Silchester Bathhouse over the last 2 seasons. These are not professional videos or presentations – whilst in lockdown we have collected together on-site clips of people working, or have put together short presentations for online learning, to represent ‘Life on the Dig’ as realistically as we can. We hope they will allow you to fully experience our Field School virtually, and to inspire you to come and visit !
