YAC announce the launch of second fully online branch as part of the 2022 Festival of Archaeology!
The Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC) are thrilled to be launching the second, fully online branch called Scotland Online YAC. Their goal is to allow as many young people as possible to participate in real archaeology and discover why it matters across Scotland. Going virtual allows them to reach more members than ever, including those who may previously have been unable to participate in in-person activities. They are really excited to be working with our friends at Archaeology Scotland who will deliver the sessions on our behalf. They are also extremely grateful to Historic Environment Scotland for providing the funding to get this branch off the ground.
When will the workshops run?
The workshops will run the last Saturday of every month from 10.00 to 11.00 (unless otherwise stated).
The first session will take place on Saturday, 30th July from 10:00 to 11:00.
What will the archaeology workshops focus us explore?
The first session is called 'Introduction to Archaeology'. It will explore what is archaeology? What do archaeologists do? What can objects tell us about life in the past? There will be lots of fun activities to help you explore the world of archaeology.
Other topics include exploring the ancient landscape of Ardnamurchan and its former inhabitants through the use historic maps to uncover the history of a place before excavating and joining the live excavation in Ardnamurchan by zoom. At Halloween we will explore Scottish graveyards and uncover traditions from other times and places including Mexico's Day of the Dead. A full list of workshop themes is made available on the branch webpage.
How do I join and is there a fee?
The branch is free to join. The only rule is that you must live in Scotland. All you have to do is complete the online sign-up form below.
