Youth Advisory Board Recruitment
We are looking to recruit three young people aged 18-25, to represent young people from different backgrounds across the UK. Whether you are a budding artist, a keen gardener, or a computer whizz, we recognise the value in everyone’s experiences and the positive contribution you can make to the Youth Advisory Board. We are looking for young people who are passionate about making a change in society, eager to upskill, and use their voice to make a difference at the CBA, in the archaeology and heritage sector, and beyond. As an organisation, there is so much we can learn from young people, and equally, we want to support their own personal development too. In this round of recruitment, we particularly welcome applications from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
What’s in it for you?

- Access to the monthly CBA Youth Newsletter
- Access to other volunteering opportunities
- Access to exclusive paid opportunities
- Opportunities to socialise and network online and in person with fellow YAB members

How much time should you commit?
Young Advisors are expected to attend monthly online meetings, which will take place on a weekday evenings. These will usually last around 1.5 hours, and may involve around 30 minutes of prep / follow up, such as responding to emails and reading documents. Alongside this, we anticipate a minimum commitment of three hours a month collaborating with your fellow Young Advisors on developing co-produced projects and outputs.
You may be asked to commit more time to work on specific projects where you are able, provide your thoughts and feedback on important issues, or to participate in training sessions between monthly Youth Advisory Board meetings. Our Young Advisors will also support the CBA’s Board of Trustees and senior management in decision making around the governance of the organisation, and ensure Youth voice and participation are deeply embedded within the organisation and the sector more broadly.
If you are unable to commit to this, you may be interested in joining the CBA as a Young Associate.
As a Young Associate, you will receive the monthly CBA Youth Newsletter with articles, jobs and volunteering opportunities from the CBA and beyond. There will also be opportunities to participate and contribute to projects being run by the CBA and our partners.
Overcoming barriers to volunteering
Each Young Advisor will work with a member of staff to develop a Personal Support Plan, to help them overcome any barriers to participation. Support may look like:
- Help with childcare costs
- Travel and accommodation expenses
- Support towards equipment to help you participate (e.g. headphones)
