I am the Curator of Regional and Community Archaeology at the Museum of Liverpool so there are lots of different aspects to my job. My role involves curating the archaeology collections here at the museum along with others in the curatorial team and running community projects to encourage local people to get involved in archaeology. We have just finished two community excavations which both went well (after a spell of torrential rain) so currently, I’m working on lots of finds processing.

Today however my day has been a bit different! My Day in Archaeology started with a visit to the BBC Radio Merseyside studio where I was interviewed on the Sean Styles show about all of the Festival of Archaeology events which the Museum of Liverpool is hosting this week. It was very nerve-wracking going in to do a live slot however I’ve since been reassured by my colleagues that I didn’t disgrace myself despite lots of ‘em’s. I spoke to Sean about our archaeology twitter conference which myself and my colleague Liz are hosting tomorrow. We plan to take over the @MuseumLiverpool Twitter page and have a line up of seven speakers all with a focus on archaeology in Merseyside. So follow #ArchMoL19 tomorrow from 12.00 and join in! We also have a day of curator talks on Wednesday and lots of craft and family activities. You can hear the interview with Sean here (link is external)at 1:04:20 to hear more about our plans.

Leaving the studio I made my way up to the World Museum to meet with the senior education manager there about the Young Archaeologist Club which I lead at the Museum of Liverpool. After a fruitful meeting it was back down to my office on the Waterfront to get suck into the more typical task of responding to emails.

For the rest of the afternoon I have been working with our Finds Liaison Officer Ben to record some Roman coins which have come in to the scheme. Ben is leaving the role at the end of the week and so we are powering through the last few finds together. I am a bit rusty at Roman coins since leaving the scheme but it is nice to get stuck into a practical task for the afternoon. The finder who discovered these coins has recorded over 550 finds on the PAS database, 350 of which are Roman artefacts.

So it hasn’t been an average day but that’s what I love about my role!
