A fantastic opportunity to hear about the rich and diverse work carried out by the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) team across the country.
Making the Most of PAS Data
This online session highlighted the valuable contribution of metal-detecting finds for advancing archaeological knowledge, but also considered the challenges for the PAS in responding to the growth of metal-detecting. Papers explored the basic problem, how PAS might strategically respond to this, and how the public (such as CBA members) could be involved.
Too many finds, too few recorders (Michael Lewis, Head PAS).
The research value of PAS data - medieval case study (Rob Webley, MeRit project).
PAS finds in a landscape context (Ed Caswell, Oxfordshire FLO).
PAS finds and regional research frameworks (Ben Westwood, Co. Durham FLO).
Each talk was 10-15min each and followed by discussion and questions.
